How Great Thou Art

She knows something does not feel right, and so she prays “God please spare my life”. Days later………

“She’s not feeling well, we have to take her to the emergency room” says the first time mum. Their little girl had a high temperature, and it was the end of the world. Mum is not feeling great either, but she decides that it is just the normal fatigue that comes with being a brand new mum.

The new parents take their daughter to the emergency room(ER). Mum decides to check herself in; she’s at the ER anyway, so why not? Her test results show blood clots in both lungs! After the initial shock, she realizes that God saved her life through her baby girl. Baby is discharged, and mum is kept at the hospital.

Doctors run more tests to figure out why this happened and could not come up with anything. They say to her,  “it is a miracle that you are still here”. Her primary care physician shares the same sentiment, and adds “if I were you , I’d get a lottery ticket because it’s a miracle that you survived this, usually, people don’t make it”.

That mum was me.

On the home front, my husband and sister who are my main support system also fall  ill. Mama’s flight back home is in two days. “What chaos out of nowhere,” I think to myself , but I remember God’s grace in that time of trouble. God has used my little girl to save my life, and has taken care of all the intricate details surrounding the situation. It is not by mere luck that mama is transiting through my home at this specific time and is able to move her trip in that time of dire need; it is the mighty hand of God at work. He has provided me and my husband with everything we need in this time of trouble. A string of random events, just to save me- GOD IS GREAT!

God  brings us through challenges, through the fire, to draw us closer to him, to reveal himself to us, to build our faith in him, and to make us experience his deep love and mercy toward us. I never in a million years thought I’d ever have a  pulmonary embolism. I shrugged at the news of a possible blood clot when I was informed I needed a CT scan based preliminary blood results. The rodomontade was, I thought to myself “whatever, it will come back clean”. When I ended up in a ward filled with the elderly, (literally) it was very sobering. That was when it really sunk in how God orchestrates every single detail of our lives.

I have been yearning to share this testimony to let everyone know how great and mighty God is. Do not to despair in time of trouble. He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6).

Things happen in our lives and we say, “Wow, if I hadn’t done this or that, it would have been disastrous”, or we use phrases like, “I dodged the bullet”, “I got lucky”, etc. Think about it, is it just luck, or is it God at work in our lives? I know this with absolute certainty; it is God at work in our lives

“I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises. I will boast only in the Lord; let all who are helpless take heart. Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together. I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:1-4 NLT‬‬

  4. So glad you finally shared this story. It is so amazing and also sobering how we live by grace. God works in ways we cannot understand. My pastor said this past weekend that His ways may not be clear to us but He is always working for us. Grateful to have a God who loves us this much! We must always trust and have faith. Thanks for sharing!
